Going Public - Images for a Window Display

Our local independent bookstore allows artists and groups to request a window to display work. I decide to be brave and requested a window for the month of August. It has been quite a challenge to select, print, matte, frame and set up this display. This gallery is a collection of images I initially put up to get help from some pbase friends ( Phil http://www.pbase.com/pnd1 , Carol http://www.pbase.com/sveetzel ,and Iris http://www.pbase.com/irislm ) and my daughter Erin to help me select which images to put in the window.
They gave me great advice and so then I went ahead and selected the images. The images that are in the window are all titled with the word "Window." The runner-ups: "Runner-up."
I have decided to go public with this gallery so that people who can't come to Petaluma can see which images are in the window ...and which are runner-ups. I might mention that a couple of runner-ups were because I wasn't happy with the print I was able to make. I hope you enjoy seeing this, my first brave step at going public.

I went through this entire gallery three times before I could come back here to comment. Your photos, as always, demonstrate incredible vision. You are truly a photographer who is not dependent on equipment to get the shot, you make it happen with your ability to identify and frame the shot. Having seen a couple of your annual calendars before, I must say it is only fitting that your work would get out in front of a larger audience. Hats off to you. Gallery voted. Tom

Bravo, Tim, for your "bravery" and your artistry. As beautiful as your images look in this gallery, I look forward to making the trip to Petaluma to see them "up close and personal." Hi, Tim. I've given you 20. It was a tough choice, but I kept putting myself in the shoes of someone who has never seen these pictures before, and is seeing them from a distance and while moving. Only one is iffy -- the moonlight shot of the chapel, but if they can get close enough to it to see the detail, it will fly, too. I tried to keep the selection as varied and non-redundant as possible. I think the 20 I've picked are a diverse lot in subject matter, scale, color, texture, light, and expressive meaning. You really can't miss. All of these images are beautiful and expressive. It comes down to choosing 20 that will work together cohesively as a window display, and this is how I see it. Good luck.

Hi Tim, Okay, I think I've picked 20 now. I hope this is helpful to you. I'm so pleased and honored that you think well enough of my opinion on this! If I can, I definitely will stop by to see the bookstore window in August. perhaps even shoot a few pictures of it for you too! Realizing that this is for the "mass appeal public" crowds of Petaluma, I did try to select the ones that would be most appealing to non-photographers, those being the boldest of color and composition, as well as intriguing content. As far as how to price them, I can't help you there,. I've never sold anything in print form! Make sure you ask enough though. They are all top-notch and so professional. I think it also depends on the frame too, as well as if you add a matte to them and what kind etc. All that stuff counts in the price as well as how it is presented. When you figure it out let ME in on it so I too can have a sense of what to charge should the need arise for me. Thanks for including me in your "survey" and good luck!! Your friend, Carol
