GALLERY::Nature's Ghost Town - Montana :: May - 2010

On a photo road trip through Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming we were presented with many wonderful surprises. One of those surprises was Earthquake Lake. It was an eerie place created by an earthquake in 1959. I asked for the car to stop so I could take pictures rather than making drive-bys. Someone in the car asked why I wanted to stop. We had been to two ghost towns already so I said that this seemed to me to "Nature's Ghost Town." Like you, I found this place fascinating. Having experienced an earthquake here in SoCal a few days ago made these images all the more striking and poignant...........and frightening. This gallery provides us with a interesting study of a very unique place. Great work, Tim.

As I recall, the subject "did not do it for me," so I did not try to uncoil myself from the car. However I can certainly see how the loneliness of these dead trees appeals to your visual sensibilities. These are quite dramatic images, particularly the one that is called, appropriately enough, "Drama." You made a lot out of a minimal subject here.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on this fine gallery! What a lucky find, and good for you, you followed your instinct to beg the car to stop too! This lake seems forgotten after all this time, adding even more beauty to it.
