Wonderful portrait that transcends place and culture.

Thanks - I love those moments when we are in the world with cameras ready and the world just presents us with gems.

Ah, kids will be kids! Wonderful portrait!

You are right, Tim. Once again, it was a case of making lemonade out of a lemon. Nobody likes a traffic jam but sometimes it produces memorable images -- in this case for both of us. Each of us found a different moment in time from the same spot, and made strikingly different stories out of them. (I loved Cyndy's comment too -- "mischief" is the operative emotion here. That's why I called the kid the embodiment of "Dennis the Menace.")

I immediately recognized this image when I clicked on Phil's favorite artists page and couldn't wait to take a peek. What a difference a second or two makes! I love both images; this one is so alive with mischief and personality. I like the look of tolerance on the elder's face. Great image.

Thank you for the pairing of the images at your version. This image is yet another example of not cursing the situation but rather making an image where you are. We hear so much about the snarled traffic in Beijing yet without it neither of us would have made our images.

I am going to place a link to this picture in the caption under my version so that others can enjoy
the pairing.

What a spectacular image, Tim! Talk about a generational contrast! It would make a great pairing with my own version of this scene athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/86307164 The child is awestruck in my image. And then he sees your camera sticking out of the taxi window and pressing his little nose against the glass, he becomes an iconic embodiment of a Chinese "Dennis the Menace." The grandfather sees it all in perspective, and an interested third party in the background is mildly amused by our antics as well. It is ironic that this group of Chinese are just as intrigued by the antics of four American photographers in a Beijing taxi as we were with the generational tableau in that Beijing bus. We all got our money's worth.
