GALLERY:: Yosemite's Elements ::Fall 2004

Each time I visit Yosemite for a photo excursion I try to bring a fresh vision to what I have seen and photographed many times before. As I prepared these images for this gallery I realized that a predominate unifying aspect to these pictures is the interplay of elements. Yosemite is grandeur. But, that grandeur is composed of elements: mountains, water, flora, fauna, people and light. It is the interplay of those elements that I focus on in this gallery.

Tim, Your vision of Yosemite has helped me envision Yosemite in a different way. Although I can't resist those "Kodak moments", I'm starting to see things the "Tim" way. The images in this gallery defy superlatives. Now, I can't wait for my Spring trip to Yosemite. iris

Hi Tim Coming over to the States in Sept, and one of our stops is Yosemite, you have given me a lot of inspiration for my trip, you have a wonderful gallery! Tim, it is so refreshing to see a new interpretation of photographically 'saturated' subject. There is not a cliche picture in this gallery - all are your vision, your interpretation of elements. Thank you for opening our horizons to this view of the grandeur of Yosemite... Brian

Your seminar really must have paid off for you by the looks of this gallery Tim! I too love every single sample you have shown us here. I was in Yosemite at nearly the same time as you were but we had bad luck as far as the weather. I'm glad that the light worked well for you though. Your gallery is indeed inspiring, and now I'm anxious to get back to Yosemite for another go at a photo shoot. I also see that you have moved up to the new 8800. I hope you are enjoying your new camera as it seems that you are from the looks of your work here.

This is a fabulous gallery, Tim. Having been on this same trip with you, this just opens up my eyes further to the amount of progress I have yet to make in "seeing the shot". You exemplify so perfectly in Oranges and Browns how the art is right in front of us, we just have to be able to shake ourselves free from the larger picture (which is very difficult to do at Yosemite) and find that the smaller view so often tells the story equally eloquently. And on a very early morning when Mother Nature wasn't very cooperative with us, you were able to see and capture Moses . I sincerely hope that our paths cross again on one of these trips.

This is your most substantive gallery to date, Tim. It is beautifully edited as well. Every image stimulates my thoughts, and I have written some of them down for you under your images. Your captions add both context and dimension. Your eye continues to develop, becoming ever more critical and probing. Your visual hallmarks are still there -- beautiful macros, odd details that you and only you seem to notice, eloquent juxtaposition of subject and context. But in this gallery, there is also a coherence that binds them all into a unified theme. In this case, that theme is, as you intend, the interplay of elements that make Yosemite what it is. Most galleries on pbase and other photosites are simply collections of images. This gallery goes beyond a collection, to express an idea in its own right. It is a thought provoking, stimulating experience to go through these images, one by one, and appreciate how they accumulate meaning. I think it will be hard for you to go back to showing collections again. With this gallery you reach a turning point as both a photographer and a picture editor. From now you, you will be shooting with an overall purpose in mind, and certainly selecting, relating, and displaying your images to express that purpose.
