PSCS3_collapse_maximise.jpg

The window of Photoshop CS3 performs properly but in CS5 works strangely on dual monitors.

Note that the lower ‘maximized portion’ doesn’t cover the PS application interface but rather stays within the PS application window (whether it is filling the entire screen or not). This is important because the dropdown application menus are NEVER covered. I’ve superimposed an arrow in each half to point to the ‘minimize_maximize_close’ block and identified the ‘maximised:( ’ window.

In PS5 I’ve ripped off the tool menu parameters and moved it to my other screen but the app menu will not move. When the image window is maximized it fills the ENTIRE screen and the PS5 app gets completely covered. That makes these very important menus no longer usable when the image window is maxed.

The ‘REAL’ solution appears to be ....get this...move the PS app itself to the secondary monitor which is the same monitor that I have all my pullouts and configured pallets. That of course brings the dropdowns over as well and out of the way of the image windows. I moved the PS app over to the secondary monitor, and rearranged all the pallets inside it and it seems to work fine. I just have to learn to LOOK to that side for the dropdown menus now. I still need to experiment but I've repeatedly closed PS, reopened it and opened new virgin images and they open in the main primary monitor outside the PS app itself...even when PS opens in the other monitor. Tabs even snap correctly.

The only bad thing is that sometimes I have clutter on top of the wallpaper on my primary and it can be visually somewhat obtrusive. PS used to cover that. At any rate, this is elegant and works very much to my satisfaction. I can’t believe I never thought of this right from the beginning.
