Our Raven for a short time...story time

The story about Edgar....June 25, 2008
My son, Barry, was sitting having lunch, in another ciy, with some other men. Edgar flew over and begged some food from all of them. Then he flew across the street and a woman yelled that the bird attacked her. Barry got the bird and another man that lived next door, said the bird was his. He said that they had been keeping the bird in their house and they had just let him go. He told Barry that he could have the bird, so Barry brought him home and put him in his room. My son called me and when I walked in Edgar flew and landed on my head...I had visions of the movie, The Birds! He stayed on my head for a couple minutes and then flew across the room. He started cawing and I got some food for him but he wouldn't feed himself...I had to hand feed him every bite! He stayed here 15 days and I fed him morning, noon and night and sometimes in between. He would call me and I would fetch some food for him, he was so spoiled! ;-) We wanted to keep him but even more we wanted him to fly free and we knew that we couldn't just release him. So...I made some calls and found a woman who had a licensed wildlife rehabilitation facility and she said that she would care for him until he could be safely released. We thought that he was a Crow but she said that he is a Raven. She put him a large aviary with other Ravens and she said that he would learn how to eat and take care of himself from watching the other Ravens. Also, he is not full grown yet.

She also told us that it was illegal to keep a Raven!

He has only been away for a few hours and I miss him! He was so beautiful and I enjoyed spending time with him, but I am thrilled that he will fly and be free in about a month!
Edgar was about 18 to 20 inches long with about a 30 inch wing spread when we took him to the facility
.
Adults are 22 to 27 inches from tip of beak to tip of tail and their wing span is 46 to 56 inches wide.
The pictures are not good...he didn't stay still...he was always flying and moving around. ;-)
