The Perseid meteor shower 2004.
Due to bad weather forecasts I decided to travel with Carl Johannink, Romke Schievink and Rita Verhoef to a clear spot. After a long journey we ended up in a little village called Britzingen, Germany. It lies roughly between the cities of Freiburg and Muhlheim in the Black Forrest Mountains.
There, on a piece of cultivated land, we could observe during the night of 11/12 august 2004. Carl, Rita and I conducted visual observations. However, I had three camera’s with me: a Canon EOS 10D with a Zenitar 2.8/16 mm lens (and a Timer Controller TC 80N3), A Canon T70 with commando back and a 1.8/50 mm standard lens and a T70 with commando back and a 2.8/15 mm fish eye lens. These camera’s worked fully automatic, so I could observe the Perseids without to many stops. Further, Romke used a video-intensifier system to capture the weak Perseids.
The Perseids put up a nice show. First there was a weak peak in activity predicted by Esko Lyytinen. After that many bright Perseids starts to appear, more than usual during a peak of the Perseid meteor stream. With the Zenitar 2.8/16 mm I captured 31 meteors on photo. The best ones are seen here. At this moment the results of the two Canon T70"s are not available yet, so stay tuned for more updates!
