ROCKFORD � The city has good news to report on the graffiti front, news that makes officials in charge of graffiti removal hopeful that they be on the brink of one of the most graffiti-less times in years. As of Thursday morning, the city had 27 open graffiti cases, a number staff isn�t used to seeing until the end of April or into May. �It�s remarkable,� said Kwame Calvin, the city�s transportation and properties manager and leader of the city�s graffiti removal efforts. �It�s usually 300-some this time of year. It takes us the whole month of April to make a dent in it. But we had this good weather. We were at a lower point with it when we went into winter and had to stop. Now that�s starting to show.� In 2009, the city had 87 new graffiti cases in January, 108 in February and 128 in March for a first-quarter total of 323. This year, it had 28 in January, 58 in February and 146 in March for 232 cases. �To me, this means we have a jump on this,� Calvin said. �Those people who maybe they were frustrated over the winter because we weren�t able to get out and get rid of it, their graffiti is being removed.� Total cases in a year are dropping, as well. In 2008, the city had 1,543. In 2009, it was 1,326. Graffiti comes in lots of forms. Most of the time, it�s spray paint on garages. It can be words or symbols. It can be gang-related or hip-hop, but it�s all illegal. The city attacks the problem in two ways � Public Works employees remove it for free, and police investigate and make arrests based on criminal defacement laws. A graffiti database, complete with photographs, helps city officials keep track of where graffiti is showing up and what kind. �I think we have less because of our efforts but also because of the way police work hand-in-hand with us,� Calvin said. �The research tells us that if it�s not there, it�s not acceptable and you�ll have less new graffiti put up.� For more than two years now, the city has had a police detective assigned to work with Public Works and vice-versa on eradicating graffiti. The sharing of information, including report details and photos, said Rockford police Deputy Chief Greg Lindmark, has proved invaluable. Add to that the use of new technology like police cameras to catch vandals in the act and soon-to-launch anti-graffiti education programs, Lindmark said, and residents should be seeing a difference. �This is one of those crimes where residents have that sense of violation,� Lindmark said. �There was destruction done right in their own backyard, and that would be upsetting to anyone.� One of the highest compliments, Calvin said, came earlier this week when a media outlet called and told him they went driving around, looking for graffiti, and couldn�t find any. �That was music to my ears,� he said. �That was a testament to what we�re doing.� Number of cases 2008: 1,543 2009: 1,326 2010 year-to-date: 232 2009 year-to-date: 323 FUCKING SLIPPIN'.

i wasstanding in a meuseum there are people around me i hear glass break then some sort of swat team like guards rush in and say evey body out an then they ran out meand the people around me wonder whats going on wgo through red double doorsand entered a cafeteara there are people eating i walk upto a little boy sitting on the floor he looks up and hands me a little device i look down at it its a oval looking video player squar in the middle two half circle speakers on each sidemy vision focuses on the screen a video starts playing i see a couple of k9's fighting the videos fuzzy then it switches to a video of a clown it looks like a holagram an the clown is mutlated bloody eyesockets and a sownshut mouth then te video goes fuzzy and the device shuts off i suddenly an back in the cafeteara i look back at the people behind me i see a man and a woman a teen boy and a senior couple i motion them to follow me we head twards the back of the cafetera a we walk every one we pass stares at us in a monatone stare we come to a nother door i open it its dark i walk through its a hallway i see a dimm light at the end of the hallway we walk theres a railing were on a catwalk we rach the end theres a curtin i pull it back its a dumbwater theres two chairs the elderly couple sit down i see a black rectangel box with a red button an a green button hanging i grab it and push the green button we start to go up but the dumbwater starts to go up and left so i stop and push the red button and it straightens out so i do this a couple of times and we reach he top of this shaft and the water jerks we come to a singing stop suddenly the floor undernieth the two chairs drops back ad i watch the elderly couple fall to te ground and die as i stare i notice a large construction size dumbster and next to it is an oversized wood chiper as look around i see a road lined with trees i try to see whats at the end of the road but its too dark i am like fuck it i just want to end this dream so i jump off the tower i fall for enough time to monuover my self to fall on my head i hit the dirt everything goes blacktheni stat to i guess wake up the road comes back into focus fuck i dident die i stand up stareing down dark road ilook back to a grining half hologram half mutlated zombie clown i start to run down the dirt road as im running i lookto my right and the clown is running rght next to me zigzaging through the trees i run to my left into the woods and i run into a circle clearing and i see a small pond and theres a man with long dark scragaly hair and beard i suddenly right up next to him an he turns to me and says in a monatone voice have you seen the clown i turn around an run back to the road and back to the museaum and see a door with a light over it i open the doot ad im in a bar full of drunk people i look around and see a door with a bathroom sign on it istart to walk twards it sudenly every thing goes quiet i keep walking and rush in go straight to the mirror and i see my self i wake up in a cold sweat .... Those trend setters guy's put in work for years they are a multigeneration crew with members that have moved away and become recognizable members of the graffiti movement, even existing members still in rockford who have been here there and everywhere. I think it's a shame that you think because of the fact you've been beaten up for graffiti that it justifies your attitude towards it today( your statements make it obvious this is how you're feeling) Have you ever stepped back and thought about why the things that have happened to you whether it be physically or just someone capping your fillins? for every action there is an equal or opposite reaction sonny, meaning if you go over someone's multi colored wild lettered clean piece of art work, whatever you did over said piece is most likely to get slashed unless you're burning it...which from the looks of it that isn't what's happening...i think it's throw up's over tags, straight letters over throw ups, burners over straight letters or something to that effect...it's confusing to me that people constantly challenge ts, granted their 3 top dog's are out of the runnings due to legal matters...but i've seen that crew take out numerous crews in the past and we're talking whole crews. Just look at last summer when tbk was fucking with stuk, ster, and jekt. Broadway was crushed alpine down to 11th with tbk disses, let alone aldeen and everywhere else. What up? As you can see I have be working a bit on fixing this site up. Some of you may have noticed comments are f'd up if you use the Firefox browser. The comments are straight in IE so you will have to use it for a while on this site. I don't have any more time to spend on this one for now cuz' I accidently crashed a bunch of my sites like graffitimuseum.com. I was bummed, but I needed to revamp those sites anyway. I'll be checking some stuff in the next few days or weeks and I'll work on getting the graffitimuseum back up soon. Take care peeps... -don
