Apart from its history as a coal-mining town, Roslyn is best known as the fictional Cicely, Alaska
in the American tv show "Northern Exposure" that aired from 1990-1995. The show chronicled the
ongoing misadventures of Joel Fleischman (played by Rob Morrow), a Jewish doctor from New York
who has to spend 4 years doing family practice in a remote Alaskan town to pay off his med school
debts. It was a classic fish-out-of-water situation, with a wonderful ensemble cast that meshed
seamlessly to portray the inhabitants of Cicely, as puzzled by Dr. Fleischman as he was by them. . . .
