Interior odds 'n' ends from a rainy day visit to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA.
I would've loved to have gotten some exterior shots, but the weather precluded that.

The house was designed in piecemeal fashion by Sarah Winchester when she moved west
after the death of her husband, the president of the Winchester Arms Company, in 1881.
In addition to the $20.5 million left to her by her husband, she owned just under half
the stock in Winchester, giving her an additional $1,000 a day in tax-free income
(equivalent to roughly $21,000 a day today).

The motivation for the building project allegedly came from a consultation with a medium
who told her that the souls of people killed by her husband's guns were seeking vengeance.
His suggestion for keeping them at bay was to make sure the sound of construction go on
around the clock on a new home. From 1884 until her death in September of 1922 there was
24-hours-a-day work being done on the constantly expanding house. Estimated construction
costs at the time of her death had reached $5.5 million, equivalent to approximately
$70 million in today's money. . . .
