Built in Scotland in the late 1880's, the "Balclutha"
brought coal to San Francisco on her maiden voyage, and
returned to Europe with a load of California wheat. . . .
Sir
Beautiful photograph of Balclutha but she was not built in Cardiff. She was built in 1886 by Charles Connell & C0.n Scotland. Launched 1886. The famous painting by Oswald Brett shows her beating out of the Bristol Channel on a voyage from Cardiff to San Francisco.

Paul Milholland's photograph is one of the best that I have see. I have been aboard Balclutha many times. She is one of my favourite square rigged ships.
