The Magellanic penguin is the most common of the 17 species of penguins. Its world population probably numbers in the millions. All penguins live in the southern hemisphere, but not all live in the cold places. The Magellanic penguin comes from the coast of Chile in South America, which gets quite warm during the summer. Because of their excellent insulation, penguins are actually in greater danger of overheating than freezing.
