This seal had beached near the Mystic Aquarium, in New London, Connecticut, where it was brought for medical attention. X-rays revealed that its stomach was distended with rocks, which it had eaten while on the beach (x-ray were taken without contrast enhancement: all that white equals rocks). The local gastroenterology team was called in to assist in the rescue, and in the course of several hours extracted between 80 and 90 rocks, which they estimate was only approximately half of what was there! It is not known whether the seal signed the HIPPA waiver of confidentiality, and hence I will not provide his/her name here.
