I painted all the visible metal parts of the Peco curved turnout, then applied my secret stash of Hunter Scenery (no longer available) Conrail gray stone ballast. All of a sudden, it looks real again to me. I also re-laid about 8" of track going into that turnout from the old layout, basically re-positioning the rail about the thickness of a rail towards the rear, making the track flow better.
