Chater Garden - Protest

Protest is a unique culture in Hong Kong.

According to the official statistics published by HKSAR, the number of protest per year is over 3000, which means that there are about 8 protests organized by different organizations every day. Despite this, the quality of participants is very high. There is seldom violence resulted from the protest.

Protest has already been a social culture in a such small city and has always been influencing the policies established by the Government.

Feeling free to speak, and free to express, is one of the most valuable elements that one should fight for.

I love freedom, and love photography.

These photos were taken on 11.04.2004. That day was a protest against the power of interpretation of Basic Law Annex I and II by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress

Annex I: Method for the Selection of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Annex II: Method for the Formation of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Its Voting Procedures
