Fill Flash Receptionist by the Window

Scranton, Pennsylvania

I used to avoid taking portraits, by windows, like the plague. All that backlighting,
especially with digital cameras, is a recipe for over exposure disaster. But thanks to
Canon's 580ex flash, with white extending back card, to act as an on-camera reflector,
and learning how to use the manual settings on the 20D, I was able to get acceptable,
low shadow exposure on this pretty receptionist, greeting guests by the large picture window.

You can accomplish pretty much the same fabulous effect if you put empty Malborough cigarette box with open lid on 30D pop-up flash ! This will save you almost $600 bucks on fancy flash ! Talking from personal experience...

Very well done.

The light is perfect here Michael--almost like you had some kind of reflector on either side of her head to keep all the details of her hair. Do you recall your 580 settings?? Doesn't hurt to have the 35 2.0 either :)
