The Graffiti Tree in the Garden Woods

Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Brooklyn, New York

A rude reminder that even in the Botanic Garden, it is still Brooklyn, NY. The gardens are certainly amazing, especially when you consider that when you walk out of them, there you are on Eastern Parkway in the heart of Brooklyn; busy streets, tenements, interesting characters, garbage, hustle and bustle. But alas, go into the gardens and you find a sanctuary of flowers, birds, fields of greens and paths, lined with rocks, woods, streams and ponds and you become one with Nature.....and then you find the graffiti tree, complete with the names of friends and loved ones that date back years and decades... a reminder of all that is Brooklyn and life itself. This park really does look amazing. The carving in trees reminds me of a scene in the Disney movie 'Pocahontas' where kids are reminded that trees are living things. Tattoo's on trees... Mmmm.
