The progression of a Sacramento river caddis hatching.

These are easy to find in March on the Sacramento river but not too easy to focus on. This caddis is about a size 20. When they emerge they are easily mistaken for a midge. Within about a minute of drying, the process of exuding the shuck begins and the whole thing is over in about a minute.
