Couple of years ago I had gallery called "You Can't Miss Gulls" here on Pbase. It was shot with my old P&S Panasonic FZ10. I've got lot of comments but at the end decided to take it down because of lack of in-flight shots. And it's really difficult to shoot them with slow focusing P&S. This summer bored on the beach of Lake Huron, I found inspiration to try shooting them agian. This time with Canon 30D and super fast focusing 70-300mm lens shooting in-flight initially looked very easy. But just initially. The speed of approaching gull is so fast that even with continuous focus it was very difficult to get them sharp. My intention was not to scare a flock of them and then shoot randomly. I wanted to follow the approaching bird and shoot it in the closest possible position, ideally facing me directly of from some other unusual angles. I hope I succeeded to make it and you like the images.
