September 2006 - Australia - Melbourne

We spent three days in Melbourne. If it weren't for the cars driving on the wrong side of the road or the funny Aussie accent I swear I was in St. Louis. The weather was identical to St. Louis weather and amazingly their weather saying is the same weather saying that we have in St. Louis, "If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes." The funny part about this saying is that it is actually true. There is a lot of microclimate variance in Melbourne because it is a coastal town. Temperatures in Melbourne were noticeably cooler since we were farther south than Sydney. Temperatures during the day hovered in the 60's while at night the temps dropped to the 40's. Melbourne is the state capital and largest city in the Australian state of Victoria, and the second-largest city in Australia, with a population of approximately 3.7 million. Melbourne is the southernmost city in the world to have a population of over one million people. Chelle and I spent our time in Melbourne shopping, dining, sight-seeing and going to Phillip Island to watch the Little Penguins. Remember you can click on a photo for a larger image.
