The "MACRO BOOT CAMPS" are three days of in depth learning, fun, and entertainment. You will need a camera, macro lens, tripod, as you will be shooting in the classroom. It is for the beginner to the intermediate photographer wanting to learn more about the macro world in nature.

Hello Mike- I became aware of your photography through Bret Edge's post on Nik products, highlighting some of the photographers that use them. I have the whole kit-and-caboodle, love them all and use Nik software throughout my own workflow. Question: I'm very much interested in macro photography. Have you any plans of ever coming out to the west coast with your macro workshops? That would be wonderful!

Hey Bobbi, I would recommend a Tamron 90mm macro lens to start, it's a lower price lens and very sharp shooting.

I just got my dslr camera - - nikon d7000- and have been using it and learning a lot. I am looking forward to attending one of your seminars soon, but have questions about equipment. What lens do you recommend I get for macro work? Would getting a macro lens make more sense than using extensions? What other equipment or accessories do you recommend for now? I have been saving for this for a long time, and am prepared to purchase whatever you recommend. I especially enjoy photos of flowers that have very soft focus and are semi-abstract. Thanks.

Hey Pete, each workshop hold 25 photographers. It is mainly lecture, but we have 4 hours scheduled for shooting time, I work my way around to everyone though out the four hours helping with what ever they need to work on.

Hey Don, it really depends on how old you lenses are. if over fifteen years, there may be problems with the electronic working with the new cameras. The best way to find out is take take your lenses and go to your local camera store and try them out on a Sony digital. My advice would be to sell off the lenses on e-bay and put that money into a new system, Nikon or Canon for the camera, and save some money by buying the Tamron lenses, which work great, as myself and many pros use these lens.

Most of my photos are taken with an old Kodak Point & Shoot with a 4X optical lens. I do have however a Manolta SRL that I rarely use. I understand that the lenses from the Manolta can be used on new SONY digital bodys. My question is should I purchase a whole new package, body and lens or find a Sony body and use my old Manolta lens? My Photo experiece is limited at best because I do other types of midia. I'm confused with all the options.

Hey Sonya, The workshop is half full already, but there are still openings. It is all indoors, but I will have subjects set-up to shoot. The problem I have with macro and shooting outside is wind and rain. For this three day workshop I have many that come in from out of state and will spend a lot of money to attend this workshop and I can't have them show up and say we can't shoot because of the weather. So I have tons of subjects that people can shoot inside and not have to worry about weather. We will be shooting but only for a few hours during the course of the three days. I will cover lots of stuff on macro and you will learn a lot. Thanks for your interest. Mike
