Hello Mike, wondering if I could pick your brain about lens. in your video about lens you say you use a tamron 18-270mm 3.5 II vc and for Micro a 90mm micro. I use a Nikon D7100 that came with an 18-55mm 3.5 VRII and a 55-300mm 4.5 VR. My question is other than having to use two lens, picture quality wise could I get the same results. I would also like to stick with Nikon lens and I see they have a 105mm 2.8 IF AF/S VR micro for about $850.00. I'd appreciate any feedback you might have, maybe other folks out there may also be helped. Thank you for your art and your videos. Adios
Alfredo, that was Nik Software plug ins. You can see other videos there using Nik's Color Efex Pro and Viveza.
I just saw your excellent, Beyond flowers and bugs, video on youtube. I saw that u were using PSE. That's the software that I am currently using PSE10. My question is where did u get the filters for color effects and etc. I suppose they are an add on because my version doesn't have them in the filter menu. Thank u for your help and for your excellent gallery.

Hey Ann, glad you like the blog and if you click on this link you will see a video on how I make my backgrounds.
I am really enjoying your blog posts and am learning a lot more about macro photography. It is very inspiring. I was wondering what kind of background sheets you carry with you to use in the field.
Thanks for sharing so much!
Thanks Nancy, glad you liked the presentation and good luck with your macro.
Mike, really enjoyed your presentation at MAPS last night. It has motivated me to dig out my macro lens and get creative. Nice job!

You are welcome Peggy.
Thank you - very calming and beautiful images.
For some reason I thought it was on Thursday, but can make it on Wednesday.
Mike, I just read on your blog about up-comming presentations you are doing. You mentioned the CNPA meeting in Raleigh on "Thursday, March 14". I believe our meeting is Wednesday, March 13. Please check your CNPA contact if there is any confusion. We don't want to miss you!
Thanks Ken, looking forward to presenting, ad I remembers to bring the books.
Ken and Phyllis Whitlow
Mike, we are really looking forward to having you at the CNPA meeting in Raleigh next week. Thank you so much for bringing some copies of "Tiny Landscapes". See you soon.
Hey Ken, I will try an remember to brings some copies. Thanks.
I have been trying for months to get a copy of "Tiny Landscapes". Would it be possible to bring copies to Raleigh, NC to the CNPA meeting you are speaking at on March 13? If so, please reserve me a copy.
Hey Debbie, glad you could make it and appreciate your comment here that you liked my program. Thanks!!
I was at your talk yesterday in NY, and I wanted to thank you for a great day. I learned so much and your art is beautiful! It is refreshing to listen to you, an accomplished photographer, talk with such a "down to earth" attitude. That really resonated with me. Thank you, you are an inspiration!
Thanks RW, glad you like the site, and maybe see at a Macro Boot Camp one day.
Mike, A friend told me about your photography, I'm glad she did. Looking at your images is inspiring not to mention just plane pleasing to look at. I'll be stoping by
to visit this site regularly from now on. Thanks for sharing you images and knowledge.
Thanks Dirk, glad you could attend the webinar, and glad that you liked it.
Yesterday I joined your webinar hosted by Nik sofware and I really liked your approach on applying the software and your awesome pictures. Looking forward to see you again in a webinar.
Dirk Heuver, Netherlands
Macro photography is one of my favorite forms of photography. You always have to travel to high profile areas to find great subjects.
Thanks Ken, glad you like the images, hope you can make the workshop in the spring.
I have become a real fan since your appearance at our monthly CNPA meeting last spring. I'm looking forward to seeing you this March, and hope to be able to attend your 3 day workshop this year. Your artistic eye so evident in your photography is truly inspiring.
Hey Bill, glad you like the images and hope to see you in St Augustine, that one is filling fast.
I learned of your websites from a local photographer two days ago....what a treasure trove of art, advice, and inspiration! I will spend many hours in each. Your news letter today featured "Reflections" and was of particular interest as "car reflections" have caught my interest (two galleries on pbase). I hope to be at your course in St Augustine. So much to learn.
Glad you liked the presentation and the e-book. Thanks.
Hi Mike, Your presentation (9/25/12) at the Quincy SSCC was awesome! I bought you CD/DVD and took a quick look at it. It appears to be just what I need to improve my photos! Thanks
Hey Jeannie, you can send it as an attachment in a small file size to my email address. firstname.lastname@example.org
You are welcome Lynda, thanks for the kind comment.
Hey Nancy, yes color efex pro 4 for the special effects, and viveza2 for fine tuning the colors and exposures.
Hello Mike...Is color efex pro 4 the software you tend to use most to get the results you want?
Thanks Jimmy, glad you liked it.
Great lecture last night at the CNPA in Raleigh.
Hey Karen, I have a three day Macro Boot Camp scheduled around the 1st of April in Skokie, just north of Chicago. Go to www.mikemoatsbooks.com and see the info about this workshop. On;y a few spaces left.
LOVE your work, Mike! Please put me on an e-mailing list for future workshops as I would LOVE to come to one. I'm in northwest, IN and am very disappointed I'll have to miss the one in Munster, IN this weekend, as I just found out about it...
The webinars are being recorded. You can find three of them on my storefront. www.mikemoatsbooks.com
Hi Mike, Do you have a webinar schedule for 2012. Your work is inspirational
Hey Eric, that would be a good idea to do a webinar on textures, but I don't have anything planned for it at this time. I will look into putting this together maybe for early next year. Glad you liked the webinar.
Mike, I attended your seminar today that you did with Nik software. Excellent photos and great instruction. Are you hosting any online seminars regarding your Textured photos? I'm interested in learning your techniques and my wife is looking for a Christmas present to give me.
Hey Roger, yes I use the Feisol tripods, and do like them, and their price points are good.
Do you actually use Feisol tripods? If so, are you happy with them? (I stumbled across their booth at the recent Javits Centre photo show, but it was the end of the last day and they were just about packed up) - thanks
Hey Susan, always glad to hear when my images inspires other to get into macro in nature. The macro boot camp is a great workshop to learn all there is to know about macro in nature. It is geared to the beginners but the intermediates will learn lots as well.
I was introduced to your work when I went into Framers Workshop. Your work is amazing and really inspired me to start looking at photography in a new and exciting way. I am looking forward to taking your class in the spring. Thanks Susan G.
Hey Cindy, thank you for the kind comments, and the best of luck with your macro photography, watch my blog for general macro tip each day.
Hi Mike, Just came accross your work and I Love it. I just purchased my 1st Macro. Its the 60mm Tamron. I am very determined to one day shoot like you. Love your work and look forward to your tips!!!
I just looked at your images in Junkyard Art, they are fantastic! This too is one of my passions...old stuff and cars.
I enjoyed the macro tips about positioning the camera that I saw on my Tamron email.
I do have a question and barring an email address I guess this will have to do.
In the writing you mentioned "focus stacking" please tell me what that is about.
I do have an email address:hope it shows up below.
thanks from a first time viewer
Hey Bonnie, you do not have to have a macro lens, but you will be limited with your standard lenses on what you can shoot in the workshop. If you can afford a macro lens, go with the Tamron 90mm macro in the Canon mount. It cost online around $459 and tamron is running a $50 rebate. Hope to see you in the boot camp.
Hi Mike- I am interested in your Macro Boot Camp three day seminar in Glendale,Colorado on Sep.30-Oct.2. I see you use Nikon equipment but I a have Canon 7D camera. Do I need to have a macro lens for your your class and if so what lens would you suggest for a Canon camera? I do not know enough about macro photography to choose a lens.
Hey Venus, I give out daily macro tips on my blog, www.MikeMoatsBlog.com
your photos are awesome,i like them all!Would like to learn more tips from you pls. Thanks :)
Thanks very much glad you like the blog, lots more to come.
Ive been visiting your blog for a while now and I always find a gem in your new posts. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Roslyn, don't bother with the 90 as it is to close to what you already have. Go to the loger focal length 180 or the Sigma 150.
I've recently become acquainted with your beautiful work, and I ordered your book Tiny Landscapes today.
I want to request a suggestion from you; I own a Nikon 105mm macro lens and want to know which additional
lens to purchase..... the 90mm or the 180mm?
You're welcome Jan
Mike, thanks for commenting on my viola. I have been greatly inspired by your nature and macro photos. Jan
Hey Matt, you can send me a size of print you need and I will send you a quote and how to pay. I only sell the prints and no matting. I can print up to 24X36. All prints shipped i a tube through UPS.
I'm probably missing it, but can't find where to order prints?
Hey Pam, details are explained in the link called Macro Boot Camp. Let me know if you have any questions.
Would like to know more about your three day Macro Boot Camp.
Wow! These images are exquisite! Transforming, what a gift!
Hey Debbie, I would suggest a Tamron 90mm macro for your first lens. It is an excellent sharp shooting lens and one of the least expensive at about $475. I shoot with it a lot. Hope you can make it one day to a macro Boot camp, it's a lot of fun and you will learn a ton.
Thanks Gary, it was a great group, thanks for coming out, and glad you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed your visit to Sagebush Nature Center tonight on Monday, the 9th of January, 2011.

Hey Mike, I would suggest the Tamron 90mm Macro for your first Macro Lens. It's a good sharp lens and one of the lower cost lenses.
Mike im doing a gcse in photography at the moment and you one of the photographers i am researching but i dont no much about you as your biography is very short what id like to know is who inspired you and how did you get into photography
Hey Giuseppe, thank you for your kind comment, and good luck with your photography.
Mike, I have drunk all your photos in these galleries. Eyes and mind are overwhelmed by too many beauties. You make the photos that I only dream to take; may be in my next life, I fear. Bravo!
Mike, impressive work you have here, I like your composition perception and technique.
All the best.
Hi, Mr. Moats: First I wanted to say that your photos are exquisite. I've always so loved really looking into, around, and behind nature's simple beauty so I can drink it all in, and you certainly allow the viewer to do so with your work. I thank you for providing that journey through your slide shows. :-)
I have become enveloped in my love for this this type of photography over the past few years, especially since my 14 year old twins no longer allow me to photograh them! However, no one else seems to be interested in cracks in the pavement or a dead flower, some things in which I may find such beauty, so I don't really know what to do with them, except take up room on my hard drive. I have 100's & 100's of my own shots and would appreciate being critiqued on some of those. However, I just get the pictures - I don't know how - other than intuition, patience and taking many shots of maybe just one flower and deleting those that I don't like...I have a very simple camera and no professional reference to provide (i.e - fstops, photo shop use, lens use, etc.) on which I can improve. Any suggestions?
Mike, your macro work is really impressive. I really liked your leaf gallery, especially how the right things were sharp, and how you captured the irridescence of the water in some of the shots. Great work.
Hey Marc, I use photoshop elements and Nik software products. If you are looking to get into the Nik software stuff I can get you 15% off with my promo code, let me know if your interested and I'll give you the code. I have been to the Pittsburgh's Shady Side Art Show but not the Three Rivers show. Thanks
Mike, your photographs are truly breathtaking. Could you comment on the software you use to process your images? Lightroom? Photoshop? Sharpening software? Noise reduction? Have you ever displayed your work at the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh?
Thanks Clint, work hard shoot a lot and you'll get there.
I enjoy Macro work. I hope to learn from your experiences. Your craftsmanship is great. I hope I achieve the same.
Thanks Scott, glad you like the images.
Truely inspiring photography Mike !
Great to talk to you at Boston Mills! Can't wait for the arrival of our print. And I love the abstracts.

These are great! Definitely going to be spending some time here, soaking up your style, gleaning nuggets of wisdom (or horse-sense), and so on.

Mike, I have visited many art shows throughout the past 15 years, but I was more impressed with your images than those of any of the other photographers I have during that time.
