Lunar Eclipse 20101221

Coinciding with the Winter Solstice

Well, I wasn't going to post this since it's way below my standards,
but changed my mind as it's at least a record of this rare event.
I was lucky to get this one blurred handheld shot taken through a brief
thin spot in an otherwise overcast sky just as the eclipse was starting
and then clouds filled back in and obscured the moon for the remainder
of the eclipse. A lot of lost sleep for nothing. Bummer!

Photographed at Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada.

Your description matches what happened here. I saw the beginning through clouds and then fog and clouds totally blocked the event from view. Impressive for a handheld night shot.

Bravo for being up at that hour and getting this image. I slept in and appreciate the images being posted today...
