Khirbet Qeiyafa / Sha'arayim archaeological site

The archaeological site of Khirbet Qeiyafa is a fortified city in Judah from the time of King David, located north of the Elah Valley. Only recently have archaeologists found interest in the site after discovering the Iron Age structures under later remains. When a second gate was discovered at later excavations, it has been suggested that this is the Biblical Sha'araim (meaning "two gates" in Hebrew), as all other cites of that time have only one gate.

Near that site one of the world's most famous battles took place, the battle between David and Goliath. After David killed Goliath the Philistines ran away and were slain on the “road to Sha'arayim " (1 Sam 17:52).
