The Saltwater Gunpowder Magazine ( commonly known as Jack's Magazine) was constructed in 1878
The bluestone wall completely surrounds the complex and was constructed with convict labour.

The canal is now overgrown with cumbungie but in those days carried barges loaded with supplies
from the Maribyrnong river up to the storage section from which this photograph was taken.
