Bats are totally cool. I didn't know they would purr. I'm glad to see someone with knowledge taking care of them...like you have. Thanks from us that like animals...and many less Mosquitos in the world. Bravo!

Toni, very interesting gallery, especially with your commentary. It's good to see there are people looking after such animals. We used to have flying foxes (fruit bats) land on our deck sometimes when I lived up in the tropics here in Australia. One of them even let us hold it (hanging upside down, as they do); probably not eh cleanest of creatures, but great to get so close to anyway. We had a mango tree in our back yard, which was one reason they came to visit. John

Someone asked me what to do about bats flying over their parents' pool in the evenings. I told them to applaud-- they're great little bug zappers! She walked away looking thoughtful....

I retired from the position of rehab manager of the largest wildlive rehab and refuge (190 pineland acres in Medford, New Jersey) on the East Coast. An international bat expert in Pennsy had put two baby big brown bats in the palm of my hand and I was smitten. I ordered the 'bible' on bat rehabilitation and the day the mailman plunked the package down in the rehab the bats started flying in the door. It was weird as this rehab had been here for 30 years, but the universe waited until I got the book. The bats in the picture were a few weeks old, but they are flying at 7 weeks. They don't imprint on humans. Photographers blow in their faces to get them to look fierce when shooting a portrait up close. I love to show people bats through my eyes. And they REALLY DO PURR. As a child I would see bats flying over in early evening of course for the mosquitoes..believing that they would swoop down to attack..of course they are misunderstood. Quite gentle they are. Facinating gallery.

Oh my, they are so cute, Toni! I raised some baby possums in my laundry room one year. Most people think that possums are ugly but I think they are cute and enjoy seeing them in my garden...I put food out for them every night. Missy
