It's been two years since I went back home and the excitement to see my family and friends again was sky high. I really had a great time in my 3-week stay to my home country, the Philippines. I wished I could stay longer but there is always that part of a good 'holiday' that you have to say goodbye to the pristine white beaches, the smiles, the good food and many others that left you with great memories...

It was a good opportunity for me to experience pressing the shutter button of my new camera and to try the capabilities of this great equipment in shooting outdoors. I recently visited places in the northern part of the Philippines and some local tourist spots near the capital city - Manila. For three days, I was away with my family to Pamana Island Beach Resort in Subic Bay, Zambales (January 26-28) and then we head off to Pangasinan to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Manaoag. Two days later (30 January, yes my birthday too!), my newly wed brother surprised me with an expense paid, day-trip to the beautiful island of Corregidor. The history of the island brought shivers in me from the time our tourist guide took us to the first leg of our tour till the end. I've never known the importance and significance of the battle that took place in the island of Corregidor between the forces of Filipino and American soldiers against the Japanese Imperial army during World War II until our guide explained the horrific battle. It may not be ideal to celebrate your 29th birthday in a desolate island with a history of war but I had a great time visiting Corregidor and to comprehend a bit of history that makes us Flipinos make me happy and proud.
