The prototype is a late production Pullman Standard PS-2CD 4740 cubic foot covered hopper. The major spotting features are the peaked roof, 16 vertical ribs per side and the trapezoidal bolster/jacking pad/pulling tab. The trapezoidal bolster/jacking pad/pulling tab is considered a spotting feature of the successor design, the PS-2CD 4750, which features 18 ribs per side and a clerestory roof. Late production 4740s with this style of bolster/jacking pad/pulling tab are rare and are often confused with the later 4750.
