The Minolta 50mm f/1.7 is an AF lens used in manual mode for this test. The Mamiya 55mm f/1.4 and Helios 40-2 58mm f/2 are manual lenses and both M42 mount with converter to Sony. The camera is the Sony A200 10mp.
In the close up pictures, it appears I may have been off on focus a little with the Minolta and Mamiya lenses as can be seen by the flower petal. Sorry, bad eyes. Maybe I'll re-do at some point when my frustration level decreases. Regardless, by f5.6 the lenses are very similar in sharpness with the Mamiya possibly sharper. In my assessment, bothe the Mamiya and Helios left the Minolta behind. All exposures were identical within an f-stop throughout the series. Any color, contrast, or level differences are a result of differences between lenses at the particular f-stops. I used the Minolta to determine the exposure used for all lenses in each sequence. Since all three lenses are different focal lengths, do not mistake image size with image clarity.
