This Rough-leg has been present for over a week now in the same area. At first we thought this to be an adult female bird, but after looking at the photos it can be conclusively aged as a subadult, with some retained juvenile secondaries for sure.
Hopefully this bird won't get hit where it prefers to hunt, right along the side of a busy highway. Not often do we have a Rough-legged Hawk in TN that is this accessible and cooperative. These photos were taken over two trips to the area.
