This is the common Buteo seen around open areas year-round in TN. During the warmer months most are fairly similar, and of the race 'borealis'. During migration and winter we get several races and morphs, and indeed Red-tails are one of my favorite birds because of this. I have had as high as 6 recognizeable variants of Red-tail in a day during the winter in west TN.
