Little Stint

The alternate Little Stint in this gallery was found by Brainard Palmer-Ball in Louisville, KY on 8/16/06. This is KY's 1st Stint, and one of only a handful of Little Stints in this part of the country. Jeff Wilson has had a couple of these birds though in Memphis, so they do come through, they get lost in the masses I assume.

I made the trip to see this bird on the afternoon of 8/17/06, though after I got there I learned that a Peregrine had been through, and the bird hadn't been refound. Luckily, after 4 hours of searching by Brainard, Roseanna Denton and myself, I happened to pick the bird up just as we were about to leave as it was getting dark. Persistance paid off, as we enjoyed great looks at this little jewel. It was a special bird for me as it was the last of the Stints that I hadn't seen.

I have several distant shots posted, showing some of the field marks even when the shots aren't very good due to distance and quickly fading light. The color is a little warm overall in my shots, due to the originals being very dark and having to be lightened a lot. But, I have also added a nice shot by David Roemer (a phenominal digiscoper) that does the bird justice, unlike my shots. I saved the best for last, which is Dave's shot.
