On this Long-billed, note the barring effect that extends from the flanks up to the breast. The throat is heavily flecked with dark, but the central area of the belly is unmarked. The back is darker and more contrasty on Long-billed, with the dark rufous markings, and obvious white tips on some of the scapulars. The markings are paler on Short-billed, with buffy tips on the scaps.
