The right hand sleeping bird is a female-type Black Scoter, the other birds are immature Surf Scoters. These birds would occasionally pick there head up for a second, then right back to sleep. They came in on the front, as I was in this same area yesterday, with no Scoters.
We had already seen White-winged Scoters at Pace Point, including my 1st-ever adult male, so this made the trifecta of Scoters in TN. I've had two species in the state several times, but today was the 1st with all 3.
These birds provided several people with lifers or state birds, as did the White-winged Scoter earlier.
