Lesser Black-backed is a long-winged, slim gull, as this profile shows. The bill is generally weaker than Herring, and not substantially larger than a Ring-billed Gulls, with no lightening at the base in 1st-winter. The contrasty dark/light plumage is again evident. The Ring-bill looking larger is an illusion.
