This is a terrible image of a gorgeous bird. This is an adult male dark-morph of the black type. None of my photos of this guy came out. When facing you, the bright yellow cere and white forehead and lores really were striking against the black plumage. I included this shot, as it shows a mark that I had never actually seen in my pretty limited experience with Rough-legs in the south.
The pale nape patch with the dark spot in the center, is shown in Wheeler & Clark's Peterson Guide, but this was the 1st time I had actually seen it. It's clearly visible in this shot of the turned head.
