This adult California Gull (2nd from right) was a real treat for Jeff Wilson and myself when we found it at Pace Point. I couldn't quite get the detail I wanted, but the red and black gonydeal markings on the bill are just visible. The eye is dark, although from this shot that isn't apparent. The bird luckily was out by itself when Jeff and I noticed it simultaneously, it quickly moved back into the group and could be very tough to pick out.
Conditions were terrible for all the shots of this bird, as it was quite distant, and I was in a near gale-force wind. I'm glad the shots came out as well as they did. Jeff Wilson was able to get some great ID shots of the bird as well.
