Iceland-type Gull

Why do I always seem to be shooting through trees? (I can come up with a couple of answers on my own :') We also spent a lot of time studying this, what I think is a kumlieni Iceland Gull, which was for both Don Manning and myself was our 1st experience with this bird. This bird was 1st seen from across the tailwater at the dam, but even from this distance it was obviously a white-winged gull, but not a Glaucous. We finally relocted the bird at the boat launch area, although at 1st (in the 1st 2 shots) it was in the barge canal area adjacent to the parking area.

(I have since decided to leave this bird unidentified due to Thayer's influence not being ruled out)

Kumlien's Iceland Gull is widely regarded as occupying a hybrid zone between darker Thayer's Gull to the west and lighter nominate glaucoides Iceland to the east. Time will tell what the outcome for the taxonomy of this gull will be. However, if this becomes the case, finding a true Iceland Gull in North America may be tough.
