Not obvious in this photo, but this Dove gets in name from the black and white stripes on the breast and sides, creating a zebra effect. These were one of the everpresent birds on the island, from walking at your feet at the pool, to a few of them up in the native forest edge in the mountains. Their distinctive cooing was one of the characteristic sounds of the island. Although native in the Pacific region, these birds are also introduced into Hawaii.
