This rather poor image of a White-tailed Tropicbird was taken at Waimea Canyon State Park, as the Tropicbird soared far below me. Trying to get the exposure right on these white birds against dark backgrounds in bright sunlight about got the best of my patience! Even in this mediocre shot the diagnostic upperwing pattern is visible. My 1st sighting of a White-tailed was at Kileauea Point, but most sightings were around the the many deep canyons and steep cliffs on the island, where White-taileds are liable to be seen soaring at anytime.
