These are the descendants of the SE Asian junglefowl brought to the islands in ancient times by Polynesian people. Similar birds roam all over Kaua'i, but the populations that remain in the mountains in the Kokee region, where this fine looking fellow was photographed, are regarded as wild fowl (but probably taste like chicken!) Kaua'i is the only Hawaiian island that these wild Junglefowl can still be found.
