Hawaiian Duck

Kauai, HI

This Hawaiian Duck, or Koloa, was seen at Hanalei Nwr. Kaua'i is the stronghold now for this endangered Hawaiian endemic, and they were seen in several locations, albeit in small numbers. Nine birds at one location was my highest count of this Mallard descendant. Though not quite as bright as a few I saw, this dapper duck is a male.
