These two female Common Mergansers were a nice surprise on the Reelfoot CBC, one of few records on the count. This was a bird I was hoping for though, with some south of us in MS already. A female Hooded Merg and Buffleads keep them company in this shot. Light was terrible, but sharp cutoff to dark at neck is very evident, and white chin is just visible on right-hand bird as well as deep-based bill compared to Red-breasted.
