At the time we didn't realize CA Quail would be the expected species here, so I just happened to squeeze off a few distant shots of this bird at Garr Ranch. Looks to clearly show the unmarked buff cumberbund and clean nape of Gambel's instead of California though. Don't know about potential releases in the area, though it doesn't seem that likely (why Gambel's here?)
