This big diver is the rarest of our regular winter visitor ducks. It takes some really cold weather north of us to usually push these birds down. They are annual at the Pace Point area, and the bay behind the maintenace sheds there is a great place to see all 3 Mergansers together. Common Merg's are second only to White-winged Scoters in size among TN's ducks.
