A very distinctive bird, is our National Emblem, the Bald Eagle. Like the Osprey and Peregrine Falcon, their populations were decimated by DDT from the 1940's until the 1970's. Their populations have since been brought back considerably. There was a successful hacking program during the '80s in TN, which helped bring this majestic bird back as a breeder in TN.
