A short tour of earthly delights. The vast mercato centrale is found at the Piazza di San Lorenzo. Built in 1874, the cast iron and glass building was restored with additions of a mezzanine and a basement parking garage in 1980. The shops and stalls inside are packed with every meat, cheese, produce or condiment for the serious cook or the hungry tourist.
I really love the colors and textures of this gallery--and of course, food is my favorite subject. I never got to this mercado, either! So much to look forward to on another trip.
