Johannesburg to Oshakati (northern Namibia) via Botswana and Windhoek. Due to time constraints--I was attending a conference--this was mostly an uneventful road trip on pavement but it had some amazing stretches (especially Oshakati-Rundu via gravel highway just south of Angola border). Cows and donkeys weren't the only roadside animals--just by far the easiest to photograph. Lots of monkeys, warthogs, and assorted large and small hooved animals whose names I didn't know. Ostriches would sprint alongside the road a few feet from me keeping pace for a hundred meters, a herd of elephants in the distance was pretty cool.
