Point Molate photos

The houses and Winehaven at Pt. Molate were supposed to be torn down so a casino could be built here, which is why we wanted to get back here and inside the fences soon. However, the security guard said that the casino had been voted last week, and the buildings will remain. Evidently Dianne Feinstein got a bill passed that prevents a casino from being at this location.

I especially liked the curtains in the windows of the old houses.

These photos are the result of three visits in 2007.

We lived in Quarters 47 during 1967/68. I was an Officer stationed at the NSC Oakland. I was the Junior Officer at PM and was charged with doing the investigation of the fire up in the Eucalyptus Grove one evening. We used to fish from the shoreline next to the Fuel Pier, and did quite well. Back then the Whale Processing Plant was still functioning, and occasionally they would drop scraps of blubber along the road, which wat foul smelling. Those were good times at Pt. Molate.

Great pics! I lived there in the early 60's (till 1966) when my father was in the Navy. I was a kid but still have some memories of the place. I remember us kids used to skateboard (I was 5 yrs old) with the original flat wooden skateboards with metal wheels! wow, I'm old , lol! I also remember being bused to Grant Elementary School in Richmond. and us kids used to roll down the hill in the middle of the housing complex in cardboard boxes. Yes, it was a fun, and simple time. Never knew that big brick building was once a winery. We lived right across from that building.. Anyways thanks for the pics. Brought back some good memories.

When my husband was in the Marine Corps, we moved to Quarters 48 at Point Molate in 1965, and lived there for two years. It was extremely peaceful and I wish I had appreciated the area more than I did. At age 22 I was still too young to enjoy my surroundings as I should have. We visit Point Molate whenever we are in Northern California, but live in New Hampshire. I believe one of the housing pictures is the one we lived in. Nice to go down memory lane.
