Coonoor and Kodai

More hill stations in the Western Ghats. Stopped at Coonoor on the way to Kodai, which is a smaller town, has fewer visitors, and is colder than Ooty.

I am correcting myself. What you said about Coonoor is also right. When you travel from Ootty to Kodai, you will definitely pass by Coonoor. Hence Coonoor is on the way to Kodai, from your point of view. You will travel downhill from Ootty via Coonoor to Mettupalayam, the foot of the Nilgiri hills. Then travel all the way to Palani on the plain and then climb again the hill to Kodai. Both places are on the same Western Ghats.

The train connects Mettupalayam to Ootty. This narrow gauge mountain train winds through 46 km of forests, tea plantations, 16 tunnels, and more than 250 bridges, starting from Mettupalayam on the plains. Moving at a pace little faster than walking, the journey takes four and half to five hours, but is more than compensated by stunning views and the experience.

I went Conoor for my Honeymoon. Your photographs help me to remember those beautiful days of my life. I can cherish my memories with these photographs.

I think, you have committed a mistake in identifying Coonoor. Coonoor is on the way to Ootty. The train is the Mettupalayam - Ootty train.

There is no railway line to Kodai. The attraction on the way to Kodai is Palani Malai (Palani Hills - Famous Temple of Lord Murugan).

Hope you have enjoyed South India.

We are palnning to go at Ooti & Kodai. But after going thro. these photos, we are planning to include Conoor in our list. Thanks for capturing beuty at Conoor.
